Background information:
Evert^3 Van Wicklen (Gerrit^2, Jentie^1 Jeppes) was baptised 5 March 1699 in Flatbush was was sponsored by Jan
Lambertsen and Mettie Van Wickelen (his aunt). He was named for his paternal uncle. He married Elizabeth Van Liew
abt. 1723, the daughter of Frederick Hendrickszen Van Liew and Dina Jans. (According to Frederick M. Van Wicklin, Frederick
Hendrickszen came to America in 1670 and was the son of Hendrick Van Leeuwen of Utrecht. The Van Leeuwens were of
French extraction according to Thomas L. Van Liew.) On 5 April 1737, Evert was chosen Overseer of
Highways, Town of Jamaica. We find him still holding that position in 1750. On 5 October 1744 John Jonson of Flatbush bought land in Jamaica
east of that owned by Evert. Two generations later, Derrick willed the "old homestead adjoining farm of George
Johnson on the East to his wife, Magdelene. Evert is later found on the first poll list of Jamaica, 31 March 1775. And on 1 September 1777
he contributed 16 shillings to Fanning's New Corp recruited from Queens Province. (from Frederick Miller Van Wicklen's 16
March 1937 application for membership in the Holland Society).
Children: Frederick^4 Van Wicklen was b. about 1724 in Jamaica, Queens and died before 1776. He married Margretta
(Grietie) Springsteen, 31 October 1747. Grietie was born 1725 and bap. 4 April 1725 in Newtown, Queens and was the daughter
of David and Antie (Van Letten) Springsteen. She died sometime after the 1800 census in which she is listed as head of her
household in Newtown. Catryntie^4 Van Wicklen was bap. 22 March 1730 in Jamaica, Queens, and she married Jan Dorlant.
Gerret^4 Van Wicklen was bap. 13 May 1733, Jamaica, Queens and was sponsored by Jooseph Van Kleef (uncle by marriage)
and Aeltie (Van Wicklen) Dorland (aunt). Gerret was first married to Maria Duryee, 15 December 1757. Maria was the
daughter of Joost and Antie (Terhune) Duryee and she was bap. 9 November 1740. Gerret's second marriage was to Phebe
Covert (b. 22 July 1762). Phebe was the daughter of Teunis and Marregrita Covert. Phebe was baptised as "Femmetie" on 16
November 1735 in Jamaica, Queens, NY. Gerret and Maria had one daughter, Antje/Ann. By his second marriage to Phebe
they had the following children: Gerrit, Tunis, Evert, Maria, Derick, Johannes/John. Gerret died between 31 October 1803 and
31 January 1806. Johannes^4 Van Wicklen, bap. 4 July 1736, Jamaica, Queens, NY and sponsors were Johannes and Catryna
Van Leeue (uncle's wife). Johannes^4 died unmarried before 31 January 1783. No children.
Derrick^4 (Dirck) Van Wicklen was bap. 9 November 1740 in Jamaica, Queens, NY.
